Administrative Sanctions (2017): In its decision dated October 13, 2017, the National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (NAIH) imposed administrative fines of 20 million HUF each on the Church of Scientology of Hungary and its central organizational body for unlawful data processing. Administrative Sanctions (2018): In December 2018, the data protection authority issued additional fines of 12 million HUF each against the Church of Scientology of Hungary and its Nyíregyháza mission for further data processing non-compliance. Judicial Review (Budapest Metropolitan Court): The Church of Scientology of Hungary legally challenged the 2017 NAIH regulatory decision before the Budapest Metropolitan Court. Supreme Court Appeal (Curia): Following the lower court’s ruling, the organization appealed to the Curia (the Supreme Court of Hungary).
