About the Foundation

The Clarus Animus Foundation was established in 2015 (Metropolitan Court of Budapest, Decree No. 13.Pk.60.402/2016/26) and has operated as a registered public benefit organization since June 19, 2019.

Our Primary Objective

The foundation’s mission is to provide public education on the organizational dynamics and social impacts of Scientology, to offer comprehensive assistance to former members and their families, and to facilitate the social and labor market reintegration of individuals transitioning out of high-control environments.

Additionally, we conduct objective research into the sociological and socio-psychological characteristics of new religious movements that maintain strict internal governance structures.

Medium-Term Objectives

To maintain an up-to-date, public information platform consolidating comprehensive Hungarian-language resources regarding Scientology. Key components of this initiative include:

  • Educational Media: Hosting documentaries and investigative reports translated into Hungarian (via dubbing or subtitles) that provide an in-depth examination of the subject.

  • Institutional Documentation: Providing access to verifiable documents detailing internal processes and organizational activities.

  • Media Archive: Curating relevant press coverage and published media articles.

  • Firsthand Testimonies: Documenting personal narratives and case studies from former members.

  • Corporate Transparency: Compiling publicly accessible data concerning affiliated organizations, including legal entities, registered addresses, executive officers, and financial disclosures.

  • Academic Resources: Aggregating domestic and international academic literature, peer-reviewed articles, and scientific research.

  • Current Developments: Monitoring and reporting on news and updates related to the movement’s activities.

  • Transition Guidance: Providing practical resources and actionable advice for individuals exiting the movement (e.g., navigating financial restitution and organizational refund procedures).

  • Legal & Advisory Support: Offering specialized pro bono legal aid and advisory services for former members and individuals in transition.

  • Scientific Evaluation: Commissioning independent scientific assessments of specific practices (such as purification protocols and auditing procedures) and providing analytical, objective reviews of organizational publications.

  • Regulatory Cooperation: Assisting statutory authorities, supervisory agencies, and law enforcement bodies by documenting and reporting potential legal or regulatory compliance violations.

  • Lobbying Oversight: Monitoring and documenting political advocacy, lobbying efforts, and attempts to secure institutional influence.

Foundation Leadership

The foundation’s trustee is Péter Bonyai, who served as an executive within the Central European headquarters of the Church of Scientology between 1997 and 2005. Following his departure from the organization, he pursued academic studies in psychology, earning a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree as a Behavior Analyst.
